In 1969 the inaugural Cleveland Catamaran Marathon was run. This has developed over the years into the current Peel Island Marathon which is sailed toward the end of the sailing season each year. Those who have spent the time circumnavigating the Island in light and heavy wind conditions can truly attest to the Marathon naming.
This year will be no different, boats are traveling from far and wide throughout Queensland and NSW to compete, all converging on Cleveland Point for the great race.
“Will the Island beat me again this year” was a quote heard from a skipper last year.
Come along and watch, relax and enjoy the beautiful bay, and see the action unfold.
